Jen Smith Lanthier

Hi, I’m Jen — a Canadian composer, educator, and lifelong musician who believes piano music should feel inspiring, expressive, and genuinely helpful for players at every stage of learning.

After more than 20 years of teaching and composing, I’ve come to realize that students succeed most when the music they play is not only interesting, but also helps to build all the skills needed to become whole musicians. That’s why I'm passionate about writing engaging music that also develops technical and musicianship skills, builds confidence, and fosters a deeper understanding of music itself — all without feeling boring, repetitive, or age-targeted.

Through Ocean Tails Music, you’ll find original piano solos, ensembles, classical and folk arrangements, pop songs, and improvisation resources created with learning and enjoyment in mind. Every composition is designed to help players discover expressive music they love and make meaningful progress at the piano.
